In The Spotlight: The Newport Beach Film Festival
Newport Beach, CA May 2, 2013
This years Newport Beach Film Festival recognized the independent filmmaking community and their showcases. For over a decade, the Newport Beach Film Festival has become a diverse and influential event with screenings lasting for a total of eight days. A team of film scouts from Ostrow and Company, the leading Producers Representatives based in Beverly Hills, arrived early to the festival ready to watch films and connect with filmmakers.
An opportunity for producers and directors to answer questions at the end of each film engaged the viewers on an interactive level. Film scouts from Ostrow and Company were able to view the films and understand both the motive and message each filmmaker brought to the screen. This allowed Ostrow and Companies film scouts to have a clear and precise understanding of the film to connect with the filmmakers in attendance.
Powerful documentaries, such as “Walking the Camino” and “Without Shepherds” were some of highlights at this year’s Newport Beach Film festival. The film scouts were able to be the first on the scene to meet the producers and directors of each film and give the opportunity to connect and discuss representation, which in end would land them a distribution deal. Most filmmakers look for opportunities to spread their message to a larger audience, so when they are approached by film scouts, the connection was exactly what they were looking for.
Not only was the Newport Beach Film Festival a great experience for both the film scout and the filmmaker, it was also a fantastic networking environment. Everyone let their hair down at the Closing Night Gala allowing the film scouts to mingle with executive producers, actors, and filmmakers, which was a perfect end to a wonderful week in Newport Beach, California.
